A Milestone for FreyZein: Winning the ACR Innovation Award 2025
We’re beyond proud to share some incredible news: FreyZein Next-Gen Textiles has been awarded one of the ACR Innovation Awards 2025 — a major recognition for innovation and collaboration between Austrian startups and applied research institutions.
Together with our partner V-Research GmbH who supported us with the transition to the market, FreyZein developed TerraTech™, a breakthrough 2- to 3-layer textile technology that redefines what performance means in a circular world.
Global Startup Summit 2025 India
On October 9th & 10th, FreyZein had the honor of representing Austria’s next-generation textile innovation at StartUPTN Global Startup Summit 2025 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu — India’s vibrant hub of textile manufacturing and entrepreneurship. Together with the Austrian Chamber of Commerce, we showcased our breakthrough material TerraTech™, the world’s first all-cellulose 2-to-3-layer fabric offering Pure Performance, Distinct Aesthetics, and True Circularity.
GFC Dornbirn
FreyZein had the honor to be invited to the 64th Global Fiber Congress (GFC) in Dornbirn, Vorarlberg in September. As one of nine chosen finalists for the Innovation Award, Co-Founder and CTO Dr. Barnaby Caven gave a talk on Advancing Monomaterial Circular Textiles for a Plastic-free Future.
EXPO 2025 Osaka
From Austria to Osaka: FreyZein’s Journey to Japan
In May 2025, FreyZein’s founder Jan Karlsson and co-founder Dr. Barnaby Caven joined Austria’s economic delegation to EXPO 2025 in Osaka, led by President Dr. Alexander Van der Bellen and Economic Minister Wolfgang Hattmannsdorfer.
GROZ-BECKERT
FreyZein had the opportunity to visit Groz-Beckert, the world's leading supplier of industrial machine needles, precision parts and fine tools, as well as systems and services for the production and joining of textile fabrics.
Located at the heart of Albstadt, Germany, lies Groz-Beckert’s Technology and Development Center.
ESA Spark x FreyZein
Together with the Austrian division of the European Space Agency (ESA) , FreyZein® developed a jacket that marries space-inspired technology with sustainable design, introducing TerraDown™: An aerocellulose-based nonwoven that could change the future of outerwear.
Performance Days Munich
In March, FreyZein presented its innovations to the public for the first time at one of the most important trade shows for performance textiles in the world: The Performance Days in Munich, Germany. FreyZein was invited to showcase its materials as part of the Innovation Forum: A specifically curated section of the trade show, with an explicit focus on sustainability and innovation in textiles.
IN-TRANSIT
Together with the French SME RBX Créations, FreyZein tackled two of the biggest challenges in the textile industry: Waste management and finite resources. Since 2018, RBX has been developing a range of new materials from agricultural biomass under the name Iroony®. During the EU-funded IN-TRANSIT project, the two innovators joined forces.
